The Stone Hut

Fly-fishing from your doorstep, in stream-side seclusion.

Home/The Stone Hut
A hut with history

This original dwelling on the banks of the Omarama Stream was built in 1863, using the local stone and clay settlers relied on at a time when timber in the area was scarce.

After years of use as a farm shed, the one-room hut was recently given a new lease of life by Richard and Annabelle — completely restored and renovated, and now a quiet retreat for two.

Inside the hut

  • Sleeps two
  • Ensuite installed during the restoration
  • Tea and coffee facilities
  • Outside table and chairs by the stream
  • New furnishings throughout, original stone walls

Fishing from the door

Your fly-fishing expedition begins the moment you step outside and make your way along the stream on the station property. The fishing in the Omarama area is renowned for its quality fish and uncrowded waterways, with a huge range of options within easy reach of the hut.

Or simply, the quiet

Non-fishing guests come for the peace the hut provides — reading by the stream, or making the most of the area's many sunny days to slow down and take some time out, away from the busier resort towns.
