Things to do

A refreshing change from the more tourist-oriented centres.

Home/Activities

A ten-minute walk from the homestead, the small township of Omarama sits at the foot of the Southern Alps — a centre for world-class gliding, ringed by rivers and lakes full of trout, and surrounded by some of the South Island's most striking country.

Walks, vantage points and the working farm.

Closer to home, there are tracks and scenic walks to explore straight from the door. Richard and Annabelle are happy to point out the best vantage points over the braided Ahuriri River and the Mackenzie Basin, with the Southern Alps behind.

Day trips

An ideal base for the Mackenzie and beyond.

Omarama sits at the crossroads of the South Island's high country. Many of its best-known places are an easy day trip — or a stop on the way through.
